First, check the oil and coolant levels in your BWM. Low levels could indicate a leak or other issue that needs to be addressed. Additionally, check the air filter, spark plugs, and battery for any signs of wear or damage. If all of these components seem to be in good condition, consider taking your BWM to a trusted mechanic for further diagnosis.

One common issue with BWM engines is carbon build-up. This can cause misfires and decreased performance. Consider using a fuel additive designed to clean carbon deposits from the engine or have a professional perform a carbon cleaning service. Regularly using a premium fuel can also help prevent carbon build-up.

If your BWM has over 100,000 miles, it may be time to replace the timing belt. A worn or damaged timing belt can cause engine issues and should be replaced according to the manufacturer's recommended schedule. Neglecting to replace the timing belt can result in costly damage to the engine.
