How do I change the automatic transmission fluid in a BMW 8 Series?

I have a 2019 BMW 8 Series and I noticed that the automatic transmission fluid is starting to look dirty. I want to change it myself, but I'm not sure where to start. Can someone walk me through the steps?

Hi Maria, changing the automatic transmission fluid in your BMW 8 Series is a relatively easy task that you can do yourself. Here are the steps: 1. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick, which is typically labeled with a yellow handle. 2. Remove the dipstick and clean it with a cloth. 3. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it out again to check the fluid level. 4. The fluid should be a bright red color and should fall within the designated markings on the dipstick. 5. If the fluid is starting to look dirty or has a burnt smell, it's time to change it. 6. To drain the old fluid, locate the transmission pan underneath the car and use a wrench to loosen the drain plug. 7. Once all the fluid has drained, replace the drain plug and refill the transmission with the appropriate fluid. 8. Double check the fluid level with the dipstick and you're good to go.

Hey Maria, as a BMW technician, I can tell you that it's important to change your automatic transmission fluid regularly to maintain the proper functioning of your car's transmission. Neglecting this maintenance can lead to transmission failure and costly repairs. So, make sure to change the fluid at least every 50,000 miles or as recommended by BMW. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, I suggest taking your car to a reputable mechanic.
