How do I check my oil levels in a BMW 3 Series?

I just got a new BMW 3 Series and I'm not familiar with the maintenance tasks. Can someone please explain how to check the oil levels and when should I do it?

Hi John, checking your oil levels is an important part of regular maintenance for your BMW 3 Series. To do so, park your car on a flat surface and wait until the engine is completely cooled down. Then locate the dipstick typically found near the engine. Remove it, wipe it clean, reinsert it and then remove it again to check the oil level. Ideally, the oil should be between the recommended minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick. If it's below the minimum mark, it's time to add some oil. You should check your oil levels at least once a month.
