How do I check the oil level in my BMW M8?

I recently purchased a BMW M8 and I want to make sure I'm properly maintaining it. How do I check the oil level and what should I do if it's too low?

First, make sure your car is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool. Locate the oil dipstick, which is usually marked with a bright colored handle. Pull it out and wipe it clean with a cloth. Then, insert it back into the tube and remove it again. The oil level should be between the minimum and maximum marks. If it's too low, add more oil. If it's too high, you may need to drain some oil out.
