First, park your car on a level surface and let the engine cool down. Open the hood of your BMW 3 Series and locate the oil dipstick. Pull it out and wipe it clean with a cloth. Place the dipstick back in and pull it out again, now checking the level of the oil. If the oil level is below the minimum mark, you will need to add more oil. Consult your owner's manual for the correct type of oil to use.

Alternatively, you can also check the oil level on the BMW 3 Series dashboard. Turn on the ignition without starting the engine and check the oil level indicator on the dashboard. If the indicator is within the optimal range, your oil level is good. If it is below the minimum level, you will need to add more oil.
