How do I reset the maintenance light in my BMW 5 Series?

I recently bought a used BMW 5 Series and the maintenance light keeps popping up. How do I reset it?

To reset the maintenance light, turn the ignition on but don't start the engine. Press and hold the trip odometer button until the display shows the word 'Reset.' Release the button and press again to confirm the reset.

You can also reset the maintenance light by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a few seconds and then reconnecting it. This will reset all the lights on your dashboard, so be prepared to reset your clock and radio settings as well.
