'How do I reset the oil service indicator on a BMW 5 Series?'

I recently purchased a used BMW 5 Series and the oil service indicator is constantly on. How do I reset it and ensure that it accurately reflects when the next service is due?

Resetting the oil service indicator is a simple process that can be done at home. First, turn on the ignition without turning on the engine. Once you see the service interval screen, press and hold the trip odometer button until the clock icon appears. Then release the button and press and hold again until the words 'Reset' or 'Re' appear. Release once again and press and hold until 'Reset' appears. Release and press and hold until you see 'Reset' and an exclamation mark. Release one final time and the indicator should be reset.

Alternatively, you can use a BMW diagnostic tool to reset the indicator. This may be a better option if you are not comfortable with manually resetting it. You can purchase a diagnostic tool from a reputable dealership or auto parts store. Follow the instructions in the tool's manual to reset the indicator.

Remember to keep track of your next service interval and get your oil changed accordingly. Regular maintenance is crucial for keeping your BMW running smoothly for years to come!
