How do I reset the oil service light on my BMW X5?

I recently changed my own oil on my BMW X5 and now the oil service light won't turn off. How do I reset it without going to the dealership?

In order to reset the oil service light on your BMW X5, you will need to go through a specific sequence of steps. First, turn your key to the ON position, but do not start the engine. Then, press and hold the odometer reset button until the service type indicator appears. Use the button on your turn signal stalk to scroll through the service type options until you get to 'reset'. Release the odometer button, and then press and hold it again until the word 'reset' flashes on the display. Finally, release the button and turn the key to the OFF position. This should reset your oil service light.

You may also need to reset your oil service light if you have had other maintenance done on your BMW X5. To do this, follow the same steps as outlined previously, but instead of selecting 'reset' when scrolling through the service type options, select 'other service'. This should reset any other maintenance lights that may be on.
