I recently purchased a BMW 4 Series and I'm still getting used to all the various features and functions. I've noticed that when I turn off my car, the engine doesn't completely shut off and continues to make noise for a few seconds. Is there a way to turn off the engine completely? I'm concerned about the impact on fuel consumption and potential wear and tear on the engine.
ReplyHi Samantha, the feature you're referring to is called 'Auto Stop/Start' and it's designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. When you come to a complete stop, the engine will temporarily shut off to save fuel. It should turn back on automatically when you release the brake or press the gas pedal. If you don't like this feature, you can turn it off by pressing the Auto Stop/Start button on the center console. Hope this helps!
Hey Samantha, I also have a BMW 4 Series and I've had the same question. After talking to my dealer, I found out that the engine will still run for a few seconds after turning off the car to cool down the turbochargers and prevent damage. This is normal and nothing to worry about. Enjoy your new car!
