How do you properly gear down in a BMW M5?

I've been hearing different techniques for properly gearing down in a BMW M5. Do I need to double clutch or just use the paddle shifters? How do I avoid damaging the transmission?

It is important to note that the BMW M5 has a dual-clutch transmission, therefore double clutching is not necessary. Instead, use the paddle shifters to downshift and always rev match to avoid damaging the transmission.

I've found that using the paddle shifters while braking can result in smoother downshifts. Make sure to also rev match to avoid any jerky shifts.
