How does the BMW M4's Active M Differential work?

I've heard a lot about the BMW M4's Active M Differential, but I'm not quite sure how it actually works. Can someone explain the mechanics behind it?

The Active M Differential is a torque vectoring system that constantly monitors and adjusts the amount of power sent to each wheel. This allows for better traction and control, especially in corners.
