How important is the Adaptive Cruise Control system in the BMW X7?

I'm looking to buy a BMW X7 and I want to know how important the Adaptive Cruise Control system really is. Is it worth investing in this feature or can I go without it? Also, does it work well in heavy traffic? Thank you.
