I just bought a used BMW 3 Series and I'm wondering how often I should get the oil changed to keep it running smoothly and avoid any potential problems.
ReplyI've been a BMW mechanic for over a decade and from my experience, I've seen a lot of issues arise in 3 Series models that were due to old and dirty oil. I recommend sticking to the manufacturer's recommendation of every 10,000 miles, but if you want to be safe, do it every 8,000 miles. Also, make sure to use high-quality synthetic oil as recommended by BMW.
According to BMW, the recommended interval for oil changes in a 3 Series is every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. However, if you often drive in harsh conditions (such as extreme hot or cold temperatures) or frequently engage in stop-and-go traffic, it may be beneficial to get the oil changed more frequently to maintain the engine's longevity. It's always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to maintenance.
I would suggest getting the oil changed every 6,000-7,500 miles if you want to ensure optimal performance and prolong the life of your engine. Some people even go as far as getting it changed every 3,000 miles, which may be excessive for some, but it definitely won't hurt to do it more frequently if you want to be extra cautious.
