How to enable the eCall function in a BMW XM series?

I recently purchased a BMW XM series and I noticed it has the eCall function but it is not activated. How can I enable it and make sure it is working properly in case of an emergency?

First, check if your car has the eCall button located near the rearview mirror. If it does, press and hold it for about 10 seconds until you hear a confirmation sound.

If the eCall button is not present, go to the iDrive menu and select 'TeleServices'. From there, you can activate the eCall function.
