Is a BMW M1 reliable?

I'm considering purchasing a used BMW M1 and I've heard mixed opinions on its reliability. Can anyone who has owned one shed some light on this?

I owned a 1980 BMW M1 for 10 years and never had any major issues. As long as regular maintenance is kept up, it should be a reliable car.
