Is it necessary to use premium fuel in a BMW M2?

I just bought a BMW M2 and I'm wondering if it's okay to use regular fuel or if I should only use premium fuel. I don't want to damage my car's engine but I also don't want to waste money if it's not necessary. What do you recommend?
