I find the stop-start function in my new BMW X8 very annoying. Can I disable it permanently?

Yes, there is a way to disable the stop-start function in your BMW X8. You can access the settings through the iDrive menu and turn off the Auto Start/Stop function.

I had the same issue with my BMW X8. You can also disable the stop-start function by pressing and holding the button on the center console for 3 seconds.

Unfortunately, there is no permanent solution to disabling the stop-start function in a BMW X8. You can turn it off manually each time you start the car, but it will reset to default when you turn off the engine.
