What causes rough idling in a BMW 3 Series?

I have a 2016 BMW 3 Series and I've noticed that the engine has a rough idle. The RPMs seem to fluctuate and sometimes the car shakes. What could be causing this? How can I fix it?

Rough idling could be caused by a dirty air filter, spark plugs that need to be replaced, or a faulty oxygen sensor. I would recommend cleaning or replacing your air filter and spark plugs first. If the problem persists, have a mechanic check your oxygen sensor.

Another possible cause of rough idling could be a vacuum leak. Check for any cracked or damaged vacuum hoses and have them replaced if necessary.

Make sure your BMW is using the correct fuel grade. If you've been using a lower grade fuel, try switching to a higher grade and see if it makes a difference in your idle.
