What is BMW Hill Descent Control and how does it work?

I recently purchased a BMW X3 and noticed this feature that I'm not familiar with. Can someone explain to me what BMW Hill Descent Control is and how it works?

BMW Hill Descent Control is a feature that automatically controls the vehicle's speed when descending steep hills. It uses the vehicle's ABS and traction control systems to maintain a slow and steady speed, allowing the driver to focus on steering.

I highly recommend using this feature when driving on mountainous or slippery terrain. It's also a good idea to keep your foot lightly on the brake while using it, just in case.

From my experience, it's best to keep the vehicle in 'drive' and not shift into neutral when using Hill Descent Control. This way, the engine can regulate speed and help maintain control of the vehicle.
