What is causing the rough idle in my BMW M1?

I have been noticing a rough idle in my BMW M1 lately and I'm not sure what could be causing it. The car drives fine while in motion but when stopped at a red light, the engine feels like it's shaking. I'm concerned that this could be a sign of a bigger issue. Any thoughts on what could be causing this and how I can fix it?

Hi Sasha, a rough idle in a car can be caused by a few different things. One common issue could be a dirty air filter, which can restrict air flow to the engine and cause it to run rough at idle. It could also be a problem with the fuel system, such as clogged fuel injectors or a dirty throttle body. I would suggest checking these components and cleaning or replacing them if needed. If the issue persists, it may be a good idea to have a mechanic take a look to properly diagnose the problem. Best of luck!

Hey Sasha, I had a similar issue with my BMW M1 and it turned out to be a faulty ignition coil. The rough idle was caused by misfiring cylinders. I would recommend getting your car's codes scanned to see if there are any specific issues with the engine's performance. If you see any codes relating to ignition or fuel system problems, it's a good idea to get those components checked and replaced if needed. Hope this helps!
