What is the best type of engine oil to use for a BMW 3 Series?

I have a 2016 BMW 3 Series and I want to know what type of engine oil is recommended for optimal performance and longevity. I've heard different opinions from different mechanics, but I want to hear from someone who owns a BMW themselves.
