What is the difference between the BMW 8 Series and M8 models?

I'm interested in purchasing a BMW 8 Series but I'm confused about the difference between the regular 8 Series model and the M8 model. Can anyone explain the main technical differences between the two?

The main difference between the regular 8 Series and the M8 is the engine. The M8 has a more powerful engine capable of producing 617 horsepower compared to the regular 8 Series' 523 horsepower.
