What is the ideal maintenance schedule for the BMW M1 engine?

I recently purchased a BMW M1 and I want to ensure that I am properly maintaining the engine. Can you provide a recommended maintenance schedule?

It is recommended to have the engine oil and filter changed every 5,000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first.
