What is the ignition timing for the BMW M1?

I recently purchased a used 1981 BMW M1 and I noticed that the engine seems to be running rough. I suspect that the ignition timing might be off. Can anyone tell me what the correct ignition timing specifications are for this car?

The recommended ignition timing for the BMW M1 is 15 degrees before top dead center (BTDC). If your engine is running rough, it could be due to incorrect ignition timing. I suggest checking and adjusting the timing to see if it improves the performance of your car.

I've been working on BMW cars for over 20 years and I've found that setting the ignition timing to 12 degrees BTDC tends to work best for the M1. Give it a try and see if it helps smooth out your engine's performance.

Before adjusting the ignition timing, make sure to check all other possible causes for rough running such as spark plug condition, fuel delivery, and vacuum leaks. If those are all okay, then proceed with setting the timing to the recommended specifications.
