Why are the brakes on my BMW M1 squeaking?

I recently noticed that my BMW M1's brakes have started squeaking whenever I come to a stop. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Squeaky brakes are usually caused by worn brake pads. You may need to replace them to get rid of the noise.
