Why does my BMW 3 Series engine make a clicking noise?

I have noticed a persistent clicking noise coming from the engine of my BMW 3 Series. It seems to occur when I am idling or moving at low speeds. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

It is possible that the clicking noise is due to an issue with the timing belt tensioner. If the tensioner is loose or worn, it can cause the belt to make noise. It is important to get this checked and replaced if necessary, as a faulty timing belt can cause serious damage to the engine.
