Why does my BMW 3 Series engine make a knocking noise?

I recently noticed that my BMW 3 Series engine has been making a knocking noise. It only happens while the engine is running and is most noticeable when idling. What could be causing this and is it something I should be concerned about?

It's possible that your engine's oil level is low, causing the engine to run less smoothly and creating the knocking noise. Check your oil levels and top up if necessary.

Another possible cause could be worn out engine bearings. This can happen over time and may require replacing to fix the knocking noise. It's best to take your car to a mechanic for a proper diagnosis.

If you've recently filled up with low-quality fuel, this could also be the cause of the knocking noise. Make sure to use a reputable gas station and consider using a fuel additive to help clean out any residue in your engine.
