I recently purchased a BMW 1 Series and I'm having trouble shifting out of park. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it?
ReplyIt sounds like your shift interlock solenoid may be malfunctioning. This can happen due to a faulty fuse, wiring issue, or a problem with the solenoid itself. I recommend taking your car to a mechanic to diagnose and fix the issue.
Make sure you're pressing down on the brake pedal while trying to shift out of park. If the brake light switch is malfunctioning, it can prevent the shifter from releasing. If this is the case, you may need to replace the switch.
Check to see if the shifter mechanism itself is damaged or worn. It's possible that the shifter is not engaging properly, causing it to get stuck in park. If this is the issue, you may need to replace the shifter assembly.
