Why is my BMW 3 series engine making a loud knocking sound?

I recently purchased a used BMW 3 series and I noticed that the engine is making a loud knocking sound while idling. Is this a cause for concern?

It is possible that the knocking sound is caused by a problem with your engine's oil pressure. I suggest getting it checked by a mechanic as soon as possible.
