Why is my BMW 4 Series making a grinding noise when braking?

I recently noticed that my BMW 4 Series has been making a loud grinding noise when I hit the brakes. Is this a sign of something serious? How can I fix it?

It is possible that your brake pads have worn out and are now making contact with the rotors, causing the grinding noise. You should have them inspected and replaced if necessary by a qualified mechanic.
