Why is my BMW 5 Series engine making a strange whining noise?

Every time I start my BMW 5 Series, I hear a high-pitched whining noise coming from the engine. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

The whining noise could be due to a faulty alternator, which is responsible for charging the battery and powering the electrical system. I would recommend bringing your BMW to a certified mechanic for a diagnostic test to confirm this issue.

Another potential cause of the whining noise could be a loose or worn belt. As your engine runs, the belt may be slipping and causing the noise. Check the belt tension and replace any worn belts if necessary.

E

In some cases, the whining noise could be caused by low power steering fluid. Check the fluid level and top it off if needed. If the noise persists, it could be a sign of a leak in the power steering system.
