Why is my BMW 6 Series making a strange sound when I accelerate?

I have noticed that lately, my BMW 6 Series has been making a strange sound whenever I press down on the gas pedal. It's not a very loud sound, but it's definitely noticeable. What could be causing this and should I be concerned?
