I recently purchased a BMW M5 and have noticed that the engine makes a strange ticking noise. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

The ticking noise may be caused by a faulty valve lifter. I recommend taking your car to a certified mechanic to have it checked and replaced if needed.

Make sure your oil level is correct and change it regularly. Low or dirty oil can cause engine noises. If the noise persists, bring your car to a BMW dealership for a diagnosis.

The timing chain may be loose, causing the ticking noise. This is a common issue on older BMW M5 models. Have a mechanic perform a timing chain tensioner replacement to fix the issue.
