Why is the acceleration so sluggish in my BMW 2 Series?

I recently purchased a BMW 2 Series and have noticed that the acceleration is not as quick as I expected. Is there something wrong with my car or is this normal for this model?

It's possible that the sluggish acceleration is due to the turbo lag in the BMW 2 Series. This can be resolved by giving the car some time to build up boost or by opting for the sport mode when accelerating.
