Why is the ECO PRO mode not available on my BMW 5 Series?

I recently purchased a BMW 5 Series and noticed that the ECO PRO mode is not available. How can I activate this mode and what benefits does it offer?

The ECO PRO mode may not be available if your vehicle is equipped with a sport or M performance package. To activate this mode, press the 'Driving Experience Control' button located next to the gear selector and select the ECO PRO option.
