How do I check my engine oil levels in my BMW 3 Series?

I just got a new BMW 3 Series and want to make sure I am properly maintaining it. Can you provide some guidance on how to check my engine oil levels and when I should be doing this?

To check your engine oil levels, park your BMW on level ground and wait for the engine to cool down. Then locate the dipstick, which is usually brightly colored and labeled “Engine Oil”. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a cloth. Reinsert the dipstick all the way back in and pull it out again to check the oil level. If the oil level is below the minimum mark, you will need to add more oil.
