How do I toggle the rearview camera in my BMW X1?

I just purchased a BMW X1 and can't seem to figure out how to switch on the rearview camera. Am I missing a button or is there a specific procedure to activate it?

To toggle the rearview camera in your BMW X1, press the camera button located on the center console near the gear shift. This will automatically activate the camera feed.
