How often should I change my BMW 5 Series's oil?

I recently bought a BMW 5 Series and I'm curious about how often I should change the oil. I want to make sure my car is in top shape and I'm not causing unnecessary damage.

As a general rule, BMW recommends changing your oil every 10,000 miles or annually, whichever comes first. However, if you're driving in severe conditions or doing a lot of start-and-stop driving, you may want to consider changing the oil more frequently, perhaps every 7,500 miles or every 6 months.
