How to fix a BMW XM that won't start?

I have a BMW XM that won't start. The battery is fine and all the lights turn on, but the engine won't turn over. What could be causing this issue?

One possible reason could be a faulty starter motor. Try tapping on it with a hammer to see if it starts. If not, you may need to replace it.
