What is the performance difference between the BMW X6 M and the X6 xDrive40i?

I'm in the market for a new SUV and I'm stuck between the BMW X6 M and the X6 xDrive40i. I know the X6 M is more powerful, but is the difference in performance worth the higher price tag? Can you provide some insight and advice?
