Why does the BMW M1 lack a turbocharged engine?

I was reading about the BMW M1 and noticed that it doesn't have a turbocharged engine. Can someone explain why this high-performance car doesn't have a turbocharged engine?

The BMW M1 was designed with a naturally aspirated engine to provide a more direct and responsive driving experience. While turbochargers can increase power output, they can also create a delay in throttle response and may not be suitable for a car that's meant to be driven aggressively.

Turbocharged engines are known for their power and efficiency, but they also require extra maintenance and are more prone to issues. The BMW M1 was designed for performance and reliability, so a naturally aspirated engine was the better choice.
