Why is my BMW 2 Series engine making a knocking noise?

I recently noticed that my BMW 2 Series engine is making a knocking noise. It only happens when the engine is cold and goes away after a few minutes of driving. Is this something I should be concerned about?

It sounds like your engine may be experiencing a condition known as 'piston slap'. This is a common issue with BMW engines and is caused by the pistons expanding in the cold weather. It is usually not a cause for concern, but it's always best to have it checked by a mechanic.

Another possible cause for the knocking noise could be low oil level. Make sure to check your oil regularly and top it off if needed. If the noise persists, it's best to take it to a BMW dealership for further inspection.
