Why is my BMW X5 engine making a ticking sound?

I recently noticed a ticking sound coming from my BMW X5's engine. It seems to be more noticeable when the car is idling. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

This ticking sound could be due to low oil levels or a faulty oil pump. Check your oil levels and if they are low, top it up and see if the ticking stops. If not, it's best to take it to a mechanic.

Another possible cause of the ticking sound could be a faulty valve lifter. This is usually a more expensive fix, so it's best to get it checked by a professional.

If the ticking sound only happens when the engine is cold, it could be due to the oil not reaching all of the engine components yet. This is normal and should go away once the engine warms up.
